Services for Incoming Students
Introduction
AASAP offers the following services for incoming First-Year and Transfer students:
Orientation
AASAP presents workshops for incoming first-year and transfer students during UIC New Student Orientation, informing students on strategies for academic success. The presentation is created a direct result of feedback from students and connects incoming UIC students to resources to AASAP as well as partnering units at the Office of Student Success and Belonging.
- “Introduction to the Asian American Student Academic Program”
- “How To Maximize Faculty Connections” in collaboration with the Native American Support Program (NASP)
Summer College
AASAP hosts “Burn Bright,” a free, 2-day Summer College program designed for incoming students interested in connecting with AASAP. It focuses on academic, financial, and career development. In this program, attendees:
- Engage in hands-on workshops that guide you in setting and planning for your personal and academic goals.
- Explore conversations within the Asian American diaspora, fostering cultural connection and self-reflection.
- Build community and confidence by connecting with fellow students and forming meaningful friendships.

Community Outreach
AASAP offers services to prospective students when requested. This can include:
- 1:1 advising sessions
- Individual outreach
- Hosting campus visits for high school and college students interested in learning more about UIC services
